Director of Development - Corporate Foundation Relations #526803
The Director serves as the corporate and industry relations fundraising officer for the College of Business. The Director provides leadership and strategic direction in the development and management of comprehensive and philanthropic industry partnerships in support of the College's mission, vision, fundraising and campaign goals.
- Develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive and strategic corporate and industry relations partnership program in support of the College's fundraising goals and objectives.
- Implements strategies to secure corporate, organization and foundation gifts in support of fund-raising priorities.
- Manages all fundraising activities relative to industry partners as well as initiates, plans and coordinates the development of prospect and donor cultivation, proposals and Letters of Inquiry, solicitations, and stewardship of gifts.
- Responsible for stewardship and oversight of gifts and grants from corporations and partners. Ensures gift fulfilment in the awarding and stewarding of funds established by charitable donations from corporations and partners.
- Establishes and proactively manages a portfolio of up to 150 potential partners, donors, prospects or suspects whose profiles (financial and demographic), and FIU affinity make them likely to make a gift. Participates in university-wide prospect management, cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects. Develops and implements a strategic annual work plan and matrix to assist in identifying and managing the above.
- Participates in and adheres to university-wide prospect management guidelines for cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects. Complies with University policies and meets established performance standards as well as achieves annual established goals.
- In partnership with the Dean, Sr. Executive Director of Development and Corporate Relations and the Executive Director for the College, recruits and implements the College of Business Deans Advisory Board. Meets with each member regularly to discuss fundraising contributions, prospects, and solicitation strategies in support of the annual College of Business fundraising goal.
- Serves as the principal staff liaison to the College's industry board, and provides guidance on the recruitment of key alumni and leaders to School volunteer leadership positions.
- Travels to meet with and personally solicit previous and potential donors on various campuses and businesses, locally, nationally, internationally and throughout the community. Attends meetings, gatherings or College/University- sponsored events. Operates a motor vehicle in the performance of these duties.
- Works in tandem with University Advancement's Sr. Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations and development specialists in several areas as well as college/unit development officers, deans, directors (including Alumni, Career Services and Executive/Continuing Education) and the Advancement Services area to advance relationships with donors and new prospects.
- Serves as School liaison with internal and external leadership and volunteer groups in support of various corporate and industry partners.
- Keeps apprised of all aspects of Business School corporate and industry trends. Seeks and consistently demonstrates a commitment to ongoing learning and knowledge of the College and its role, impact and influence on industry and, conversely, the impact and influence global trends have on the College, its programs, partnerships, students and alumni.
- Works with the FIU Alumni Association, President's Council, Board of Trustees, FIU Foundation Board of Directors and other University stakeholders to promote support for the College and to develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet established goals and objectives.
- Reports regularly to the Executive Director. Produces and evaluates regular reports related to corporate and industry relations programs and fundraising activity.
- Communicates effectively with the Advancement staff. Collaborates with other University Advancement team members to inspire trust, encourage creative thinking, and collaborate with other FIU staff and volunteers to significantly increase gifts to FIU.
- Serves on and works as an active member of the university-wide Corporate Relations committee. Represents the University and/or the college at public functions, as needed. Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
- Participates in informational workshops and one-on-one meetings with development officers, faculty, and staff to provide them with information on fundraising partnership opportunities, and to assist them in understanding the private grant making process, and in completing grant proposals.
- Displays honesty, integrity, and ethics to donors at all times in the performance of duties. Must also display a high degree of confidentiality.
- Handles donated funds in the form of checks, stocks or other negotiable securities. Has access to confidential information regarding gifts and donors.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of experience with five (5) years of experience in business and/or corporate development and/or foundations and grants. A demonstrated career track record in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing five- and six figure gifts from foundations and/or corporations, and entrepreneurial spirit in developing new sources, and a history of stability with an organization. Supervises/manages subordinate staff.
