Systems Administrator
Job Summary:
The Systems Administrator is primarily responsible for implementing, managing, and supporting the College's server and storage infrastructure. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the administration of virtualized and dedicated servers, SAN appliances, and backups; managing and supporting the e-mail system, telecommunications and voicemail system, and administrative database systems. Manages the day-to-day operational system infrastructure; develops and implements system policies and procedures, and ensures compliance with institutional and IT policies

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Plans, configures, manages, and upgrades all server and storage-related hardware and software in a multi-platform environment that includes Microsoft Windows and Linux/UNIX,
• Manages Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file and print services, and other server systems.
• Manages SAN architecture including storage allocation as well as server backup and recovery operations.
• Manages the College's e-mail system, mailing groups.
• Coordinates planned system infrastructure down time and upgrades typically during off-hours to minimize impact on academic programs and administrative operations.
• Collaborates with other IT personnel on infrastructure projects, application support, maintenance, other projects as assigned, and staffing redundancy to ensure campus operations are maintained with minimal downtime and business continuity is supported.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Strong hands-on experience with Windows server systems, virtualization technology, storage, and telecommunications systems configuration and installation.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer-service skills.
• Experience with documentation, including disaster recovery, and server monitoring tools.
• Strong organizational, project, and time-management skills.
• Ability to protect highly confidential information; strict adherence to confidentiality policy.
• Ability to work well in a team setting as well as independently.
• Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve problems under stressful conditions where the speed of resuming normal operations is imperative.
• Some off-hour/weekend work may be required to respond to critical needs or minimize disruption to end users during maintenance/upgrades.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Computer Science or Information Systems.
• MCSE or equivalent certification is also preferred.
• A minimum of five years of experience managing a multi-platform server environment.
• Experience with server virtualization (VMWare), SAN storage arrays (Dell/EMC), and security and backup/recovery management is essential.
• Working knowledge of Linux, StorageCraft, or other enterprise backup system is desirable

• Support and maintenance of the campus systems equipment will require lifting and transporting system equipment. (Ability to lift 50Ibs)
• Use of general office equipment in an office setting. Sedentary silting. Requires equal amount of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing multiple levels of stairs, light lifting, near vision, and manual dexterity to perform essential job functions.
• Ability to travel between buildings on campus with exposure to inclement weather conditions.
• Driving or traveling to locations in and outside of the area on college business. May require travel by car, train, bus, or plane.
• Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
• May encounter stressful situations.
