Assistant Dean for Diversity
Work closely with institutional leaders in shaping and leading the Dell Medical School as it embraces and fosters a culture of diversity as fundamental to institutional excellence. Serve as champion and guide the college on matters of equity, inclusion and diversity.
Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin is recruiting its next Assistant Dean for Diversity. We seek an experienced individual who will bring collaborative leadership and creativity to advance a breadth of diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in partnership with colleagues in student affairs, admissions, and human resources at the medical school and across the broader UT Austin community.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Health Equity, the Assistant Dean for Diversity leads a team that coordinates Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts across undergraduate and graduate medical education; as well as overseeing a number of health professions pathways/pipeline programs. Serving as a primary medical school spokesperson for diversity and inclusion, develop a common vision for an inclusive climate at the Dell Medical School and outline steps to realize the vision including the identification of benchmarks to measure progress.
Responsibilities
- Act as liaison for the Dean between Office of the Provost, deans, department chairs, program directors, departmental personnel, primary affiliated institutions, and the public.
- Bring leadership, vision, integrity, and team-oriented philosophy to diversity, inclusion and retention efforts including recruitment, selection, and appointment of students, faculty and staff.
- Engage in an insightful and suitably nuanced dialogue with senior leadership about diversity realities and possibilities for an inclusive climate.
- Develop, lead, and oversee the shaping and execution of diversity as a resource that enhances learning for students, residents and institutional excellence.
- Implement workshops, presentations, learning modules and other strategies that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Offer guidance on matters related to enhancing cultural competency initiatives. Guide senior leadership discussion regarding policy and program initiatives in diversity. Educate constituents (internal/external) on value of an inclusive campus.
Requirements:
Doctoral degree in a related field (PhD, EdD or similar); At least 6 years of experience leading Diversity Equity and Inclusion efforts in a health professions educational or similar organization; Understanding of and experience with the breadth of institutional diversity; Strong oral and written communication skills; Demonstrated ability to build relationships and partner with a diverse group of stakeholders; Demonstrated ability to manage multiple processes and projects; Ability to monitor, assess, and report on Dell Medical School's progress on diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
