Mechanical Engineer

Scope of Position:
Process Engineer leading process and equipment improvement projects within finishing operations including cut, coating, trim and glaze, and packaging.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day production support to resolve process issues that are outside the standard operating parameters
- Identify, lead and co-lead process improvement and cost reduction projects based on rigorous analysis of process data, and utilizing the scientific method to develop, test, and prove hypotheses
- Collaborate with production operators, team leaders, and peers to develop and implement process, equipment, or safety improvements into manufacturing
- Support the transfer of new technology, materials, and processes into production, including defining the acceptance criteria and leading the qualification process, and communicating progress and results to all stakeholders
- Author documentation and provide training to the production team or maintenance team for new processes or process changes, including Standard Operating Setpoints, Standard Operating Procedures, Preventive Maintenance and Calibration, and troubleshooting procedures
- Ability to design and implement equipment solutions including conceptualization (CAD) through procurement or assembly
- Prepare cost justifications and capital requests for any new equipment purchases that may be required to achieve project goals
Travel Requirements:
- Domestic Travel and International Travel (<10%)
Hours of Work:
- Typically M-F, 8am-5pm
- Extended hours and weekend shift support may be required depending on nature of projects, production issues, or need to engage with employees working shift schedule
Education and Experience:
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 3-5 years of manufacturing experience (can include internships and co-ops)
Required Skills:
- Mechanical aptitude
- Understanding of various mechanical conveyance systems, thermodynamics and process-equipment interactions
- Practical experience with basic statistics, familiarity with advanced statistical methods
- Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, including formulas and graphing functions
- Can take routine data retrieval and analysis and develop a standard methodology
- Strong technical fundamentals with process engineering skills
- The ability to learn new technology and processes quickly
- Able to handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities with multiple internal customers
- Demonstrated experience with various CAD software (Solidworks, AutoCAD, and/or Inventor)
- Solid trouble shooting, presentation and reporting skills
Desired Skills:
- 2-4 years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Exposure to Lean and Six Sigma (DMAIC) principles
- Familiarity with Process Control and Process Discipline (PCPD) approach and Product Quality Architecture (PQA), Product and process development (Innovation Stages 2 & 3)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Personal initiative and commitment
- Organized with good planning and time management skills
- Ability to build relationships within cross functional groups; team building skills
