The City of Visalia is recruiting for one Engineering Technician/Senior Engineering Technician depending on qualifications (DOQ).
THE DIVISION
The City of Visalia’s Engineering Division serves the City by managing the City’s wide range of capital improvement projects and the permitting of work within the public right-of-way.

THE POSITION
The City of Visalia is recruiting for one Engineering Technician/Senior Engineering Technician (depending on qualifications). The selected Technician will be responsible for processing and approving encroachment permit applications and managing the permit parking systems for various residential neighborhoods and the City parking garage. The Engineering Technician will be expected to have good organization and customer service skills. These skills are essential to serving the needs of the public, development community, utility companies, and City capital improvement projects. in addition to these skills, the Technician will be required to coordinate and work collaboratively with other departments and divisions.
Qualifications / Requirements
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, sound knowledge of traffic control plans and ability to read and interpret improvements plans for work within the public right-of-way. The position requires excellent judgment, integrity, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form. The ideal candidate will be a self-driven individual, willing to take on new challenges, be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, support staff, and be willing to work on and manage multiple encroachment permit applications at any given time. The ideal candidate will have skill in applying and learning computer applications. Possession of a Work Zone Safety certificate or higher with International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) or Traffic Control Technician certificate or higher with American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSAA) is desirable.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and abilities would be:
Engineering Technician:
- Two (2) years of technical, para-professional field and civil engineering experience.
Senior Engineering Technician:
- Three (3) years of technical, field and civil engineering experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License.
