Position Description
The City of Seattle is seeking candidates to fill the position of Automation Developer (ITP-B, BU) in support of the Digital Workflows team in the Applications division with Seattle Information Technology (IT).

Job Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the City’s Automation Anywhere platform and service. In this role, you will provide support for existing Automation Anywhere RPA bots, including troubleshooting issues and implementing upgrades to improve performance and stability. You will also work with business teams to identify new opportunities for automation and develop bots to replace manual, time-consuming processes. Responsibilities will also include administration of the platform as well as collaborating with staff supporting other automation platforms. We are interested in individuals with an interest in continuous learning, who can think analytically, and are excited about automating processes to improve everyday work for City staff.
The Automation Developer will:

Perform administration of the City’s Automation Anywhere environment, including licensing, control room management, and server upgrades

Support existing Automation Anywhere bots, including testing, troubleshooting, fixing issues, and code refactoring that meets development best practices

Develop new RPA bots using Automation Anywhere to automate customer business processes

Work with application development teams to envision and implement automation tools that integrate with existing applications to solve complex business needs

Work with customers to develop requirements and proactively propose optimizations

Develop components for re-use in automations

Develop documentation, best practices, and FAQs for our City staff “citizen developers”

Research, evaluate, and deploy Automation Anywhere Bot Store components

Work with other team members to improve governance of Automation Anywhere and other automation platforms

Engage with platform vendors to continue to develop our platform service and address platform issues

Proactively propose process improvements for the automation team, our platform support services, and Seattle IT
-
Become proficient with other automation platforms and tools (such as the Power Platform) in use at the city
-
Collaborate with Power Platform team members to evaluate requests and determine the best tool for a given scenario
-
Support department goals in promoting diversity, race, and social justice

Perform varied tasks as assigned commensurate with classified position level
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered for the required qualifications except where specifically noted.
- 4 years of experience developing technical solutions for business needs, including application development and/or automation development

1 year of experience with Automation Anywhere, including developing bots and administering the platform

Good communication skills; able to communicate with both technical and business staff

Analytical thinker; able to break down complex problems into solvable components

Ability to see beyond the assumed issue to identify and find solutions for underlying business goals

Good knowledge of development best practices (e.g., SOLID, DRY)

Continuous learner; interested and able to learn new technologies quickly

Ability to work independently and in teams while maintaining appropriate communications with supervisor about progress and issues

Ability to manage time well to meet project milestones

Ability to work in a complex environment with changing requirements

Ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base
Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business or Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent education and/or experience

Experience with Power Automate Desktop/RPA and Virtual Agent
-
Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI)
-
Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies and templates.

Experience working with Azure DevOps
