Museum System Administrator
The Las Cruces Museum System (LCMS) seeks a dynamic, creative, and customer-service-oriented Museum Administrator for a leadership position within the Quality of Life Department.
Located within Southern New Mexico, the City of Las Cruces (City) is home to the Las Cruces Museum System (LCMS), composed of the Branigan Cultural Center, Las Cruces Museum of Art, Museum of Nature and Science, and the Railroad Museum. LCMS provides various opportunities for Southern New Mexican residents and visitors to explore the distinctive histories and cultures of Southern New Mexico's diverse, complex culture, born from a blended history of Spanish exploration, Native American traditions, Mexican colonists, and a wide variety of other American settlers. These cultural roots produce the unique "Borderland" identity and experience.
The four museums, which provide free admission to exhibitions and a majority of public programs, serve approximately 90,000 visitors per year. Increasing annual attendance is one of the many goals set in the Museum's Strategic Business Plan and in the City's Comprehensive Plan, Elevate Las Cruces. The latest census shows a snapshot of the city including a population of which 60% identify as Hispanic/Latinx, 52% identify as female, and 24% live below the Federal poverty line. One of the goals in the recently adopted Master Plan is to better relate to and reflect the needs of our community in all that we do and all that we are.
The Museum System is part of the Quality of Life Department of the City of Las Cruces, including the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, Senior Services, Volunteer Network Services, and Public Art. The museum system frequently collaborates with these other sections for programming and events.
