City Management Fellowship
The City of Columbia is seeking applicants for it's opening of City Management Fellowship position.
Job Description Summary:
Serve as a member of the City’s executive management team by conducting research, assisting with special projects, completing City Council requests, and providing administrative support to all areas of the organization.
Monday-Friday - Some evenings required
$18.269 - $20.17 / Hr; Commensurate w/Training & Experience
Essential Job Functions:
•Conduct research and statistical analysis to provide the City Manager’s Office with important municipal reports and policy recommendations.
•Respond to and track research requests from City Council by conducting individual research, contacting appropriate City staff, preparing staff reports, conducting surveys and collecting data.
•Assist the City Manager’s Office with any special projects by conducting research to gauge public interest in various municipal programs.
Ancillary Job Functions:
•Address citizen complaints received by the City Manager’s Office.
•Meet regularly with City Manager and other City leadership to learn about municipal government programs, operating procedures and policies, and organization.
•Gain experience in conducting and presenting research for municipalities.
•Assist with training less experienced employees.
•Perform related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
•Completion of all coursework for a Master’s degree in Public Administration, Public Policy or a closely related field prior to start date of fellowship.
•GPA of at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
•Applicants who have completed all coursework for their degree but have not completed a thesis, internship, or comprehensive exam in order for degree conferral are eligible.
•Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

•Strong analytical ability to successfully conduct research and prepare reports.
•Flexibility to organize and coordinate a broad range of special projects and requests in a fast-paced environment.
•Effective interpersonal and customer skills to manage the complaints of challenging or upset citizens.
•Sufficient knowledge to interpret city, state, and federal laws and regulations.
•Clear verbal and written communication skills and ability to give and follow written and oral instructions.
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic office equipment/machines.
•Proficient with computers and ability to use department specific software/programs.
•Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and all customer contacts.
•Ability to prepare and keep accurate records and reports.
•Ability to work under general supervision and make responsible decisions.
•Ability to use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
•Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
•Ability to work outside normal business hours.
•Ability to actively model the City’s core values.
Work Environment -
•General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
