Controller
Position Overview:
The Controller is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and controlling of all accounting policies and procedures. This includes internal and external financial reporting, annual financial audits, accounting software administration and training, and general cashiering functions. Further, this position models the organization’s core values and mission in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervises the timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions by the Finance Department. Selects and hires new employees. Provides department orientation, including training and guidance with work procedures and methods. Conducts performance evaluations, plans, and assigns job duties, counsels employees, and provides corrective action.
- Responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial records. Reviews current programs and systems to maintain the highest level of efficiency. Recommends and implements improvements. Reviews, develops, and audits internal controls and fiscal procedures to assure the safety of all City assets.
- Coordinates and oversees the financial accounting functions including, but not limited to, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, payroll, and their integration into the general ledger.
- Responsible for preparing annual financial information, including the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and applicable Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements, local, state, federal and professional guidelines, and City policies.
- Maintains accounting structures in compliance with the City’s Financial Management System. Trains departmental personnel and all other users in the systems, policies, and procedures for all accounting activities. Responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of all financial data within the accounting system.

Qualifications:
- Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in professional accountancy, with three years of supervisory experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. *
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and have a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web-based platforms. Must have experience with modern sophisticated integrated accounting software systems and be proficient in financial functions in Oracle Cloud ERP or ability to become proficient within first three months.
- The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in accounting, finance, or public administration, and/or have a Certification in Public Accounting (CPA).
