SUMMARY
Responsible for mid-sized non-profit agency accounting and general financial activities for multiple entities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Maintain computerized, double-entry modified accrual accounting system.
- Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information; documents financial transactions by entering account information.
- Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
- Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
- Analyze and report on financial status including activity variances, communicating financial results to management, budget preparation and analysis.
- Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures. Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective action. Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
- Assists accounting clerical staff with activities and answering questions; Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Assist with Financial Audit and Single Audit.
- Assist with budget review and projected spending for the various contracts/grants/restricted funds.
- Prepare monthly journal entries and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly depreciation and capital lease schedules and enter in accounting system.
- Reconcile contribution payments with the Development department on a monthly basis.
- Prepare monthly AR schedule. Reconcile balance sheet accounts including AR, prepaid accounts and AP on a monthly basis. Notify the billing agency to collect payment when AR becomes more than 30 days past due.
- Prepare monthly contract billing.
- Generate monthly financial statements and prepare reports as assigned.
- Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
- Assist with month-end/year-end processes.
- Back up for processing payroll and accounts payable.
- Internal and External customer service.
- Maintain agency standards regarding confidentiality and quality.
- Serve on staff committees as assigned and/or approved.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration with a Concentration in Accounting, Business Management with a Concentration in Accounting, or equivalent education with a minimum of three years of experience performing accounting duties and/or corporate finance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced manual and automated accounting skills, including advanced skills with automated accounting software.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Must be detail-oriented, deadline-oriented with good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and accurately.
- Ability to think through a problem or process to arrive at the desired outcome.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must have valid driver’s license, which meets the requirements of the agency’s insurance carrier.
