The Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for New York’s Capital Region based in Albany, New York. CDTC works with State, regional and local government partners to plan for and implement a safe, resilient, and modern transportation system. CDTC is seeking a transportation planner responsible for performing technical tasks in support of community planning, transportation planning, and safety planning work program elements. The transportation planner will be supervised by the Executive Director and senior staff, is expected to work in a team environment and is expected to be a self-starter, capable of managing multiple tasks concurrently.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in transportation planning, urban and regional planning, civil engineering, geography, environmental studies, public administration, or in a closely related degree field; OR

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, urban and regional planning, civil engineering, environmental studies, public administration, or in a closely related degree field with two (2) years of experience in transportation planning; OR

 

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above.

 

Relevant Skills

 

  • Strong technical, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of GIS, graphic design software and other analytic tools is considered a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Conducting research, data gathering and analysis.
  • Collecting transportation data, including bicycle and pedestrian data.
  • Drafting technical memos.
  • Assisting with the preparation of planning documents including text, tables and graphs.
  • Assisting with public engagement activities.
  • Attending and preparing summaries of advisory committee meetings.
  • Undertaking limited project management.

Salary range begins at $57,325.
