Summary
This position requires an individual to work harmoniously with the following positions: Athletic Director, Head Athletic Trainer/Associate Athletic Director, Health Center, Student Life Office, and faculty as needed. The Athletic Trainer is to play a pivotal role in the health and safety of all students within the athletic arena.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily operations (e.g., stocking supplies, cleaning, equipment maintenance, answering phones, etc.)
- Provide for on-site recognition, evaluation, and immediate treatment of illnesses and injuries- acute, chronic, and catastrophic.
- Provide athletic training coverage for all practices and all home competitions. Travel to away games for football, playoff teams, and as schedule allows.
- Participate in the development and implementation of a comprehensive athletic health care system.
- Proficient in assessing, treating, and managing concussions.
- Facilitate and perform non-surgical and pre-and post-surgical rehabilitation and reconditioning.
- Determine an individual's readiness to participate in athletics after an injury.
- Make referrals to appropriate healthcare providers when necessary.
- Verifies, reviews, and organizes student-athlete physicals and consent forms to determine athletic eligibility.
- Maintain appropriate and comprehensive record-keeping and documentation on all athletes seen.
- Keep current with licensing, memberships, certifications, continuing education, and evidence-based practices.
- Communicate with the athlete's parents when necessary and appropriate.
- Assist with practice and game set-up, including water coolers, water bottles, and tents when necessary.
- Monitor weather patterns to effectively communicate with officials and coaches in the event of inclement weather (e.g., lightning, rain, snow, etc.) to promote safe indoor and outdoor practices and competitions.
- Communicate with visiting injured athlete's home Athletic Trainers.
- Advice on selection, fit, function, and maintenance of athletic equipment. Fit based on season.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine
- NATABOC Certified
- Licensed ATC (Connecticut)
- First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer
Other Duties
- Maintain advisory role to student-athletes (4-6 students)
- Exercise Program design, implementation, and progression
- Provide counseling and education relative to health and wellness
- Dorm parent
- Possibility of Teaching
