Legal Support Assistant (Part-Time)
Burr & Forman LLP has an immediate opening in our Hilton Head office for a part-time (15-20 hours per week) Legal Support Assistant. MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS
- Prepare, edit, and/or draft correspondence, memos, e-mails, and legal documents.
- Proofread accurately, efficiently, and dependably, checking for appropriate formatting and spelling and grammatical errors and ensuring that all attachments, exhibits, and enclosures are intact.
- Prepare Estate Planning binders.
- Mail, fax, or arrange for delivery of legal correspondence to clients, witnesses, court officials, etc.
- Open and screen incoming mail.
- Backup front desk receptionist.
- Answer incoming calls and direct to appropriate personnel; take and distribute messages.
- Interact with clients as required.
- Plan and schedule conferences and meetings.
- Maintain attorney calendars, including deadlines and appearances.
- Open and maintain client files and organizational documents.
- Respond to inquiries for information.
- Scan and copy correspondence, documents, and other printed materials into the document management system.
- Perform routine filing.
- Maintain master file in database of client documents.
- Find and retrieve information from files and/or vaults in response to requests from attorneys, paralegals, other team members and clients.
- Act as witness or notary for client signings.
- Assist in closing files and getting to offsite storage. Must be able to lift 25 pound boxes.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested.
THE ESSENTIALS
- A high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience are required.
- Punctuality, professional image, and pleasant, professional telephone voice are a must.
- Minimum 50 wpm typing.
- Excellent knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Outlook are required; knowledge of MS Excel and Access is a plus.
