Research and Development Control Systems Engineer
Emhart Glass is searching for a controls systems engineer to expand our technological leadership in the glass container industry in the fields of automation, thermal process control, servo controlled machinery, robotics, and data analytics with closed loop control of the glass forming process. The successful candidate's responsibilities and tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Development of innovative advanced control and optimization strategies to automate and improve the glass container forming process.
- Modeling, simulation and design of control system concepts and algorithms.
- Implementation and testing of fully functional, prototype systems at our test facility and customer sites, including necessary software coding and hardware implementation.
- Conducting field trials of prototype systems, under production conditions, including development of test plans, data acquisition, and analysis.
- Evaluation and selection measurement/sensor systems to provide control systems inputs and development of new innovative measurement techniques to support advanced control strategies.
- Transitioning proven concepts into commercial products, including working closely with software developers, to ensure that control strategies and algorithms are implemented successfully.
- Preparation and presentation of high quality documentation of concepts, test plans, results and recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Master's Degree in Engineering with a strong background in control theory, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and simulation of dynamic systems. Capability to program using MATLAB/Simulink. Ability to program in other languages - Java and Python preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge of test instrumentation equipment such as infrared cameras, high speed cameras, thermocouples, data loggers, sensors (pressure, air flow, velocity, force), and servo controls. Strong analytical and data analysis skills and knowledge of computers and interfacing to systems to collect data is required. Glass industry experience is a plus.
