Position Title: Accounting Analyst I or II Position Purpose: Accounting Analyst I - This position is responsible for the processing of expenditure transactions through the use of the Accounts Payable (AP) software system. This includes, but is not limited to, the processing of vendor invoices, employee related business expenses, inter-company payables, and other liability related payment transactions. This position ensures the transactions are processed timely and accurately including proper coding and approval. This position is also responsible for ensuring the transactions are recorded in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) policies, procedures, requirements, and guidelines. Accounting Analyst II - This position is responsible for the processing of expenditure transactions through the use of the Accounts Payable (AP) software system on a timely and accurate basis including ensuring proper coding and approval. This position is responsible for maintaining the Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) coal and fuel registers/ledgers and for reporting the results of this activity and ledger balances at the end of each accounting period. This position works closely with the Director of Fuel and Transportation, along with plant management of the various BEPC facilities, in accumulating and analyzing the inventory and burn quantities, and then applying the various cost factors required in calculating the cost per ton of the coal inventory and burn expense, and the same for fuel inventory and fuel consumption. This position assists with yearly 1099 reporting and monthly 1099 reviews. This position is responsible for providing knowledge transfer and training to other Accounting Analysts to enhance their understanding of the Asset Suite system, provide knowledge on processes and procedures of the BEPC accounting and Accounts Payable functions for future advancement opportunity, and overall business continuity.
Qualifications: Accounting Analyst I - To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have knowledge of GAAP, financial concepts, and information systems at a level acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in accounting, finance, business, or other related financial discipline, and two years of related accounting experience. Strong accounting, analytical, and problem solving skills; strong interpersonal skills; proficiency in personal computer operation and Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook; and the ability to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills are required. Accounting Analyst II - To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have knowledge of GAAP, financial concepts, and information systems at a level acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in accounting, finance, business, or other related financial discipline and four years of related accounting experience. This position requires knowledge of accounting for complex contract-related transactions associated with the facilities or operations they support. Strong accounting, analytical, and problem solving skills; strong interpersonal skills; proficiency in personal computer operation and business application software; and the ability to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills are required. Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Access, Excel, and Word, as well as with integrated accounts payable and inventory systems is required.
