Director of Development

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the nation's largest and most dynamic nonprofit civil engineering organization is currently searching for a development professional to lead our Society's fundraising and philanthropic initiatives through strategic planning, revenue generation, financial management, organizational development, staff management, and program operations.
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing and managing all long and short-term activities related to funding programs, fundraising, operations, and special activities
- Developing and implementing the strategic plan and annual budgets
- Planning and participating in all meetings associated with the annual giving fund, major giving, planned giving, capital programs, and special programs and/or events
- Managing, mentoring, and coaching three direct reports
- Working with the Chief Advancement and Growth Officer on ASCE Board collaboration and mobilizing volunteer leaders
- Maintaining ongoing contact with all key prospects and exercising initiative in identifying additional prospects through a systematic program of prospect research and evaluation
- Preparing all internal and external reports on fundraising (all gifts, donor files, and correspondence related to prospects, donors, and development volunteers)
- Ensuring our development initiatives conform with legal, fiduciary and reporting requirements
Ideal candidates will have:
- Bachelor's degree with 8-10 years of development experience
- Advanced degree in nonprofit management, marketing, or business (desired)
- CFRE is highly desired
- Demonstrated success securing gifts at the $10,000+ and above level
- Demonstrated expertise in building major donor relationships and other fundraising revenue streams, developing and implementing fundraising strategies, coaching fundraising staff and volunteer leaders, and writing winning proposals and fundraising collaterals
- Willingness to travel and work outside normal hours
- Thorough proficiency in MS Office, social media, and experience with a fundraising database (Raiser's Edge preferred)
- Demonstrated success communicating via both the written and spoken word
