Director of Human Resources
SUMMARY: Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Director of Human Resources provides senior-level leadership and guidance directing and administering American Forest's HR strategy and operations. As the guardian and champion of American Forest's culture, the Director of Human Resources partners with the senior leadership team and other key stakeholders to ensure the development and advancement of an empowered, diverse, inclusive, values-driven workplace culture, and actively plans for, addresses, and forecasts future talent and culture needs as set forth in the organization's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) plan. The Director will lead and guide the effective delivery of all Human Resource services across the organization, including staffing, employee engagement and recognition, compensation and benefits, performance management, professional development, and compliance. The ideal candidate will be an inspirational leader who is approachable, relatable and an experienced Human Resources and Administrative leader with solid career progression across multiple HR roles and is a strategic and tactical leader who is willing to "roll up their sleeves" and drive positive results.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Management (30%)
- Oversee scope of work to evaluate and set DEIA strategy integration to the organizational strategic plan.
- Research, develop, recommend, and execute creative strategies to meet DEI organizational goals.
- Collect and analyze statistical data to evaluate progress in alignment with DEIA outcomes.
- Draft and implement recruiting, hiring, and retention strategies to source employees from diverse backgrounds.
- Serve as the staff point of contact to and lead facilitator for the DEIA Task Force.
- Act as company liaison with government agencies concerning affirmative action and equal employment opportunities.
- Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
- Provide training and policy updates to colleagues, ensuring legal compliance of management and human resources staff.
2) Talent Acquisition, Onboarding and Management (30%)
- Partner with executive leadership to define American Forests' long-term mission, goals and objectives; identify ways to support AF's mission through talent management.
- Oversee, develop, and execute talent acquisition and retention strategies and plans, including directing the design and implementation of the organization-wide employment programs for talent acquisition and retention strategies, candidate identification and selection methods, and diversity and inclusion strategies and measurements.
- Manage the talent acquisition process, partnering with supervisors to recruit, hire, onboard, and orient new staff and interns.
- Oversee new hire/onboarding program to enable new employees to feel welcome, become knowledgeable about American Forests and its policies, and quickly and effectively adapt to the organization's culture.
- Manage periodic analysis of trends in compensation and benefits; research and propose competitive based and enviable benefits package to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
- Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.
- Provide confidential advice, guidance and support across the organization regarding a broad range of employee relations issues, performance issues, manager-employee communications, employee engagement, conflict resolution, and when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise.
3) Professional Development and Performance Review Management (30%)
- Lead and develop results-driven performance management tools and processes that integrate with the organization's mission, goals and objectives, values, and core competencies.
- Develop and lead integrated talent management solutions, including individual development planning, performance management reviews, succession planning, and leadership development.
- Oversee the development and delivery of comprehensive training and development programs that are aligned with the organization's key competencies and enable employees and managers to successfully meet personal, professional and organizational goals.
- Promote a creative and inspired work environment by sustaining the organization's policy of wellness and balance, respect, equity, and efficiency.
4) Operations (10%)
- Develop and manage HR-related budgets.
- In partnership with the COO, HR benefits Broker, and vendors, oversee the management and delivery of all benefit programs (e.g., health, disability, life).
- Ensure compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations and requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.

REQUISITE EDUCATION OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required, with a Master's degree or comparable experience desired. Current HR certification, e.g., SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly desired.
KEY ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLSETS
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible human resource management experience required.
- Skilled in organization development, change management initiatives and operating as a member of a senior leadership team.
- Experience developing, leading and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives across an organization.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with association management software and Human Capital Management software such as iSolved.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- High standard for excellence and attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
