School Business Manager
The Afton Central School District is accepting applications for the position of School Business Manager. The successful candidate will be appointed to a regular probationary appointment as of March 7, 2022, or sooner if possible.
This is a professional business management position responsible for supervision and performance of a wide variety of business functions including budgeting, purchasing, accounting and reporting. Activities are carried out in accordance with school district policies under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools with leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment. The work requires the maintenance of close working relationships with instructional and non-instructional department heads. Supervision is exercised over the work of business office and other assigned staff. Does related duties as required.
Typical work activities include: budgeting; purchasing and inventory control; accounting; reporting; facilities operations, maintenance, and safety; financial planning; fiscal management and reporting functions of food service programs; insurance management; personnel.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of accounting methods and budgetary procedures; thorough knowledge of the techniques of monitoring expenditure of funds; thorough knowledge of debt and investment management; good knowledge of business administration procedures; good knowledge of the techniques of solving financial problems; good knowledge of the principles of cost analysis; working knowledge of the principles of personnel supervision; working knowledge of purchasing and inventory practices; ability to plan and coordinate the work of others; ability to identify and anticipate financial problems and needs; ability to readily acquire familiarity with laws, regulations and policies; ability to identify and set priorities; ability to verbally explain and present budgets; ability to interpret financial reports; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; skill in organizing and consolidating narrative and tabular information into a clear, logical, fiscal plan; skill in human and public relations; good judgment; thoroughness; dependability; capable of performing the essential job functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher which included or was supplemented by at least 24 credit hours in accounting, business or public administration and two years of professional accounting or business administration experience which included accounting or budgeting duties; OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree which included or was supplemented by at least 24 credit hours in accounting, business or public administration and four years of professional accounting or business administration experience which included accounting or budgeting duties; OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of A. and B.
above.
Salary for the position is negotiable depending upon the experience and education of the successful candidate. Fringe benefits will be in accordance with the contract between the employee and the Afton Central School District.
