Project Engineer
Position Summary
The Project Engineer provides the in-house engineering oversight for assigned projects and is responsible for managing capital projects. The position is responsible for monitoring and overseeing the engineering project design, monitoring design development, and procuring internal and external resources as required.
The Project Engineer is responsible for project specification development, review and approval of all design and construction drawings. Occasionally, the Project Engineer will be the designated Project Manager with oversight from the Maintenance & Cap Ex Manager. In this role, the Project Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the project including scoping, planning, design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and close-out.
Responsibilities
- Provide design and cost input for Capital Appropriation Requests on assigned projects as required by the approved annual Capital Plan.
- Determine required resources for project design and implementation. Develop Capital Requests when appropriate.
- Manage project teams performing design engineering, procurement, and construction project management.
- Participate in the design review process in coordination with internal Project Team, Engineering Contractor, specific equipment suppliers or general contractor (as applicable) to ensure particular projects achieve company project objectives.
- Act as the project manager and contract administrator with contract change management procedures.
- Evaluate change requests against contracted design criteria and specifications. Assess and validate requested change order amounts.
- Lead project value engineering efforts to minimize project costs while ensuring compliance with project objectives
- Provides leadership to the Maintenance department
- Assists with equipment installation, adhering to RAGEGEP
- Budgeting, planning, and reporting on assigned projects. Manage to budget
- Review contractor and vendor invoices for compliance with contract and purchase order requirements. Review engineering deliverables for accuracy and acceptability prior to payment.
- Lead project compliance oversight with respect to design specifications and operational safety. Integrate efforts with other disciplines such as environmental
- Support environmental permitting and other development activities as needed

- Working knowledge of Lean processes and Six Sigma tools and their application to project management
- Strong communication skills, including business writing and presentation skills
- High levels of proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project Management Software
- Ability to complete projects on time and within budget, while meeting stakeholder expectations, e.g., quality of work, safety
- Highly computer literate
- Ability to work independently and on teams
- Ability to work non-standard hours when needed
- Ability to work outside in heat and cold
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and 2-4 years of project engineering or project management experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment
- Professional Engineering License a plus
- Management coursework or MBA a plus
- Experience in project engineering and/or coordinating engineering and construction efforts for heavy industrial processes; material handling / high temperature processing a plus.
