As VP of Product Software for Qualcomm's Wireless Networking (WIN) business you will lead global cross functional teams including software development, system test, and customer engineering in delivering a broad spectrum of wireless networking products into Carrier, Enterprise and Retail markets. The VP of Engineering will directly manage the engineering team in the US, with extended functional leadership of a large development and test organization in India and customer engineering teams worldwide. You will leverage your technical depth as a former developer and architect to push your team towards a high standard of technical excellence, quality, efficiency and on-time delivery. Working closely with hardware teams designing System on a Chip (SoC), you will drive product release schedules integrating multiple technologies (e.g., Platform SW, WiFi, Packet Acceleration) to create software products for Qualcomm's WIN customers. The VP of Engineering will be responsible for driving continuous improvement across all phases of project planning and execution, including SW release roadmap strategy across multiple product lines; SW design and development methodology; Continuous integration and test; Product and System level testing including functionality, performance, stress and stability, interoperability, and competitive analysis; Customer engineering support including customization requests and resolution of customer reported issues. Achieving this requires an innovative leader who can transform existing teams of engineers, architects and development managers into a highly effective engineering function, including upgrading and reorganizing talent as required. The ability to engage engineering teams technically to mentor managers and lead in product execution is essential. This position requires close collaboration with the WIN business team to develop a successful business strategy including product definition, roadmap planning and customer engagement models. The VP of Engineering will partner closely with leaders in the business team to assess tradeoffs, risks, and priorities to maximize profitability of the business. Direct engagement with executive level decision makers at key customers will be essential to ensure that product delivery, execution, and support align with customer expectations.

Minimum Qualifications This is a global leadership role for a seasoned software development leader. Minimum fifteen years of engineering experience in roles of increasing complexity and at least five years experience as a senior leader in Carrier or Enterprise networking product development is mandatory. Technical capabilities must include:
  • Software and system architecture skills that have been successfully applied to development of large-scale Enterprise or Carrier wireless communication systems
  • Expertise in the optimization of software on embedded processors to maximize performance with constraints on power consumption
  • Proven track record of driving software design, development, integration, and test methodologies in a large scale software development environment
  • Heavy focus on program management and engineering execution
  • Responsible for ensuring product vision is realized through engineering excellence in execution
  • At least 5 years experience in technical leadership of local and offshore engineering teams, including defining roles, responsibilities, processes, and communications
  • Strong understanding of networking technologies: Ethernet, WiFi, Routing, Packet Processing
  • Experience leading all aspects of software and system quality assurance including code quality, defect management and analysis, issue triage and debug, and test coverage strategies
  • Expertise in the design and execution of robust and scalable test automation infrastructure and reporting tools

  • Capable of motivating and energizing the very best quality engineers, as well as gaining their respect
  • Building trust with Product Management and Marketing on product roadmap and schedules
  • Synthesizing a wide variety of product requirements and technical priorities aligning to the strategic plan of the business
  • Minimize schedule and technical risk by foreseeing and addressing obstacles proactively and aggressively
  • Proven accomplishments in leading matrixed geographically disperse teams in executing a software development lifecycle fulfilling commitments to key stakeholders
  • Leading a team of at least 100 software engineers within the last three years where you were responsible for goal setting, performance measurement, and hiring/ firing decisions (direct reporting lines)
  • Delivery of end to end solutions to customers with rigorous standards for quality
  • Preferred Qualifications A successful numerous accomplishments in delivering world-class software into complex SoCs used in the design of Carrier and Enterprise wireless products.
    Education Requirements Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Engineering is mandatory (MS or Phd preferred)
