About the position:

Over the last ten years, JFF has doubled in size and is poised for additional growth in the coming years. The Vice President, Finance will lead JFFs finance function to support its growth, strengthening and updating the systems and processes needed to support its work, while also serving as a strategic thought partner to staff and members of the executive team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to make a significant contribution to JFFs growth, acting as an organizational leader, problem solver, and change agent to both internal and external stakeholders. The Vice President, Finance will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will manage a team of 11.

What youll do:

Strategic Leadership

  • Serve on the organizations senior leadership team, helping set goals and develop strategies to meet those goals, while serving as a culture carrier, role model, and leader
  • Advise the CEO, COO and senior leadership team on operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide recommendations to the COO based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, revenue/expense analysis and profit optimization
  • Lead the design, revision and rollout of new systems, structures and policies; manage communication and project plans to ensure thorough organization-wide engagement and buy-in
  • Spearhead the creation of financial models for new initiatives, in collaboration with the COO and other senior leaders

People and Stakeholder Management

  • Manage the finance department; uphold an environment that is collaborative, with a problem-solving and service-oriented mindset, supporting partnerships across the organization and enhancing the skills of the existing team
  • Develop and refine systems and processes that will help teams across the organization to work together collaboratively and effectively
  • Create a professional development plan for the team to increase capacity, technical knowledge base, and soft skill growth
  • With the COO as partner and advisor, support the Boards Finance Committee
  • Work alongside all departments to support finance, accounting and budget decision-making through the development and implementation of clear communication systems and timelines
  • Support the development team by reviewing and confirming classifications for donations and gifts
  • Partner with the People and Culture team across various projects, including determining the best system(s) for capturing HR and payroll information

Finance and Accounting

  • Oversee financial and operational reporting, accounting operations, payroll, purchasing, expense, and cash and inventory control functions
  • Develop and manage quarterly and annual budgets, monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally, as needed
  • Leverage technology to maximize efficient and effective enterprise management, recommend process and financial software improvements, as needed
  • Work in partnership with fundraising/development staff to develop forecasts and track funds raised; support the development of a fundraising strategy that will appropriately diversify funding sources and respond to organizational needs
  • Build budgeting and analytical tools and processes to support department teams, enabling timely data-driven decision making, financial accountability, and executive insight into budget and financial trends
  • Develop and oversee projection processes and reporting mechanisms; conduct appropriate analyses to inform decision making, such as variance analyses and new initiative implementation
  • Ensure that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected

Who you are:

  • Belief in JFF's core values and ability to apply those values to all areas of your work
  • Leadership of the Finance Function: You have a minimum of ten years of experience in senior finance positions at complex organizations, ideally in a nonprofit setting.
  • Complex Business Management: You have overseen finances and strategies for multiple lines of business with a demonstrated mix in both the public and private sector.
  • Quantitative Skills: You have sophisticated quantitative analytical capabilities including financial planning, forecasting, modeling, and data analysis.
  • Management of Projects: You ensure deliverables and projects are completed on time and on budget, and work collaboratively and efficiently across program and admin, with a track record of developing and strengthening financial systems and processes.
  • Management of People and Relationships: You set clear goals and expectations, track progress against established goals, provide feedback and updates, and communicate and address issues promptly. You build strong working relationships with both internal colleagues and external partners.
  • Strategic and Analytical Thinking: You work together with JFF staff to analyze problems and explore diverse solutions; enact JFFs mission through your work; and bolster JFFs reputation in the field.
  • Communication: You employ open, efficient, productive, and direct lines of communication, both internally and externally; you have the ability to effectively communicate complex financial data (i.e., verbal, written, and presentation), articulate trade-offs, and distill information into clear recommendations for a range of decision-makers.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: You challenge traditional thinking and ideas to ensure that diverse perspectives and solutions are considered. Your and your team feel empowered and supported to take calculated risks.

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required, or equivalent experience; CPA, MBA, or other Masters equivalent degree preferred.
