The Office of Equity and Inclusion of UW Tacoma has an outstanding opportunity for a TRIBAL LIAISON.

The Tribal Liaison is responsible for representing the University of Washington (UW) Tacoma in various settings involving Native and Indigenous constituents: students, government partners, primary and secondary schools, relevant community and state agencies. This position will be the main liaison responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships, work under minimal supervision, require travel throughout Washington State and develop program support to increase Native and Indigenous student enrollment and success and community partnerships.
This position will report jointly to the UW Tacoma Chancellor and Assistant Chancellor for Equity and Inclusion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Coordinate/oversee activities to support and maintain strong relationships with students, government partners, primary and secondary schools, relevant community and state agencies.
  • Follow protocols for communicating and engaging with Native and Indigenous constituents.
  • Inform Native and Indigenous constituents across the State on existing UW Tacoma programs and services. Works collaboratively with UW Tacoma Chancellor, Assistant Chancellor for Equity and Inclusion, campus leadership, academic divisions, student affairs, and enrollment services to improve recruitment and retention of Native students and community partnerships.
  • Collaborates with Marketing to coordinate program materials to inform constituents.
  • Oversee budget and administration of received grants as needed

    REQUIREMENTS:
  • Masters degree or above in related field required. Can be substituted for substantial experience.
  • Requires ability to travel 30% of the time throughout Washington State
  • Demonstrated experience of active engagement with advocacy-based and grassroots organizations that serve Native and Indigenous communities
  • Knowledge of Native populations in Washington State
  • Knowledge of cultural and traditional Native protocols
  • Effective oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills that enable relationship building
  • Experience in program development
  • Strong process improvement skills/experience
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative and respectful manner
  • Able to multi-task, deal with complexity on a frequent basis
  • Essential to perform all functions of the job accurately and in a timely manner
