General Description

The Chapter Director is responsible for outreach, increasing membership, and harnessing volunteer support within a Blue Star Families chapter. The Chapter Director understands the importance of engaging with local community leaders and developing key relationships.

*The Chapter Director must reside in the Nashville/Clarksville, TN area*

Key Job Functions

  • Event coordination and delivery of branded Blue Star Families programs (Ex: Park, Book, Museum, Caregiver events) and initiatives to increase member sense of belonging and access to resources

  • Cultivate relationships with local partners and donors to increase fundraising opportunities with local institutions to raise funds through sponsorships, grants, and donations to offset operational chapter expenses and ensure the long-term sustainability of the Blue Star Families Community

  • Leverage social media assets to grow our membership and improve participation, engagement and training with the local community and military members

  • Recruit, retain, develop, and recognize volunteers to assist the Chapter Director in executing and extending the mission

  • Create an annual strategic calendar highlighting the presence of Blue Star Families within the community

  • Establish and foster partnerships with other Military/Veteran Service Organizations (MSO/VSOs), government entities, military leadership, industry and philanthropic organizations to connect military families with various resources and programs

  • Establish and manage a Blue Star Families Advisory Board to facilitate fund-raising efforts and grow partnerships

  • Field the Blue Star Families Annual Military Family Lifestyle Survey (along with other research instruments) and share results within the local community

  • Conduct 10,000 engagements within the community (newsletter outreach, events, social media, giveaways, briefings, etc)

  • Attend local installation and community events

  • Maintain chapter dossier containing chapter specific details (partnerships, event assets, etc)

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience, Skills & Background

  • Bachelors degree and/or equivalent experience

  • At least five years of prior volunteer service/management, volunteer led organizations or knowledge of Blue Star Families volunteer opportunities

  • Currently embedded in military/veteran community with strong community ties

  • Independent self-starter with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

  • Knowledge of the military family experience

  • An entrepreneurial spirit eager to engage with potential partners to build community-based solutions

  • Initiative to engage with leadership in the community and on the installation(s)

  • Experience in public speaking

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Ability to facilitate meetings and drive towards decision-making

  • Project management experience

  • Proficient with technology

  • Limited out of town/overnight travel is required to attend meetings, trainings, events, etc. (based on national and local health guidance)

  • May be required to work nights, weekend, and holidays as necessary to carry out key job functions

Desired Experience, Skills & Background

  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems; and familiarity with Salesforce a plus

  • Familiarity with membership-driven organization

  • Proven business development and fundraising experience
