SAIT creates disruptive technologies as well as new technology convergence by combining Samsung's most advanced technologies. SAIT also conducts science-based research in promising new areas to generate novel, powerful solutions to pressing global problems.

And we are approaching in various aspects on selecting research domains.
On one hand, we analyze global mega trends, for example, socio-economic, industrial and market trend. On the other hand, we forecast potential breakthroughs driven by technology evolution or revolution such as convergence, nanotechnologies, etc.

After going over our own core competences and then combining the two approaches previously mentioned, that is, market pull and technology push, and then we choose our research domains by examining strategic fit.

As the Strategy and Open Innovation Manager, you will be responsible for overall strategy and competitive intelligence in: (1) artificial intelligence and how it impacts hardware, (2) the future of computing, and (3) other emerging technologies on an as needed basis.

You will be expected to perform as the subject matter expert to develop recommendations for research collaborations and R&D strategy. You will manage, build, cultivate and sustain relationships with semiconductor and AI & SW industries, universities, and other stakeholders to enhance open innovation at Samsung. In this role, you will work with internal executives and researchers from conception to development by connecting technical and business inputs

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Identify gaps and competitive threats; stay up-to-date on latest research, understand macro/micro market trends and competitive threats to provide insightful strategic recommendations in artificial intelligence and high tech
• Work with senior executives to communicate key trends and developments in AI in light of hardware/semiconductor roadmaps
• Be the authority on the AI landscape towards identifying applications and how that would impact Samsungs future competitiveness
• Explorer and navigate new technical areas to provide strategic insights
• Build formal or informal programs to connect university researchers with our Samsung teams
• Develop and steward a wide range of academic relations for Samsung
• Manage, identify and advance relationships with relevant universities to support and enhance research collaborations
• Interface directly with university departments or centers to support and enhance the open innovation
• Establish strong strategic partnerships to supplement and support Samsungs research efforts

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS:

• MS, MBA, or PhD degree preferred in relevant engineering or science disciplines
• 6+ years proven experience in high-tech or electronics industry with significant strategy experience
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complicated or intricate ideas in a clear and concise manner
• Strong analytical skills to identify opportunities towards improving the future of computing
• Experience in crafting formal or informal programs to connect university researchers with Samsung researchers
• Passionate about leveraging emerging technology to solve hard problems
• Ability to build relationships, collaborate, and influence without authority
• An ability to navigate complex multinational/multicultural organizations
• In-depth knowledge of AI algorithms as well as understanding of computer systems architecture
• Travel (when appropriate) to stay current on relevant technical topics including product innovations and competitor research by attending seminars, trade shows, and other pertinent events
