Position Summary

The Department of Foundational Sciences & Humanities of Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science invites applications for the part-time position of Small Group Preceptor (SGP). A SGP will facilitate weekly small group case discussions. Case discussions will be conducted on Mondays and Fridays in both the M1 and M2 academic years. There will be 8 students in each group, 2 of whom will be responsible for organizing the discussion each week. Cases last approximately 90 minutes. SGPs will be given an answer guide and can expect to spend approximately 4 hours per week in the course, split between preparing for and facilitating the case discussion.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Facilitating a weekly case discussion.
  • Reviewing in advance the case and guide.
  • Assisting student leaders in case preparation by responding to student questions and reviewing prepared material, including power point slides.
  • Advising students on how to adjust material to promote learning.
  • Attending the case discussion session.
  • Assessing students in the group using an assessment rubric.
  • Providing narrative assessment of each student in the group, summarizing their preparation, collaboration and participation.
  • Contacting the faculty case writer if the SGP has questions regarding the case.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Small Group Preceptor Faculty Lead.

Required Education & Experience
  • An MD, DO, or PhD.
  • Two years of teaching experience at the graduate level in a health professional school.
  • An official transcript for the highest degree earned and also the highest clinical degree earned, if different and relevant to the position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and basic science faculty.
  • Ability to communicating in a timely fashion via email.
  • Ability to meet virtually, via Google Meet and/or Zoom.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching through facilitation of interactive student-centered case discussion.
  • Experience with other educational or healthcare-related accrediting bodies
  • Knowledge of current educational theory and methodology
