About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join and active and developing Business & Process Requirements team in Journals Production. As a Senior Production Process Analyst, you will lead or participate in projects improving the efficiency of production processes. You will provide internal teams and external suppliers with accurate data and analysis, supporting effective supplier management, accurate reporting and cost management, and driving efficiencies across the Journals department. You will configure and manage tools and processes supporting the publishing process, from authoring to online publication.

The successful candidate will be joining a high-performing and developing team focused on continuous improvement, with plans to merge with a similar team in Academic books and to take on projects with a wider remit across Content Operations.

Responsibilities include:
  • Providing accurate reporting and analysis of production data to the business as required.
  • Maintaining and updating reports used by internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Analyzing process, cost and performance data and making recommendations to relevant internal teams on opportunities to improve performance, simplify processes, deliver cost savings or drive efficiencies.
  • Identifying, assessing, testing and managing the implementation of new tools to support the publishing process, in collaboration with other production teams as appropriate.
  • Leading, participating in, or initiating projects that develop and standardize production processes within the department, and documenting those processes, in order to improve department performance and the quality of our products. Reporting on project progress and performance to the department.
  • Collaborating with other production teams and with different stakeholders and functions across the OUPs journals team on projects to achieve department and business goals and to ensure an outstanding experience for customers and clients during the production process.
  • Managing effective communication within the Department and with other Departments in the Press to ensure that good working relationships are maintained, and development opportunities maximized.
  • Training, mentoring, coaching or advising new and existing staff, both in general and with specific reference to data, reports and processes.

About You

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent analytical skills, including a high level of numeracy and comprehension of complex processes
  • Good organizational skills
  • Superior negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Experience of data management and/or systems management
  • Familiarity with process-management philosophies, such as Lean Six Sigma
  • Ability to learn quickly and work flexibly with varied software
  • Confidence in working with data and with a variety of tools and applications
  • Advanced IT skills, in particular a command of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Experience in a production environment
  • Experience in a publishing environment
  • Familiarity with database management software, SQL and VBA
  • Familiarity with PowerApps and Power Query
  • Basic knowledge of XML, HTML and LaTeX.

GJC Level: I5 (for internal purposes only)

This role can be remote or based in one of our OUP offices in Cary, NC/New York/Sunderland, MA
