Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will conduct the daily accounting and payroll functions of Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF). This position compiles and analyzes information necessary to prepare accurate and timely financial reports, statements and recommendations. Performs advanced and specialized accounting assignments, involving complex and confidential data necessary for the organization to make educated financial decisions.

  • Performs general accounting, finance, and payroll duties for the organization.
  • Prepares daily cash status reports.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements for the Director of Finance's review.
  • Prepares monthly budget to actual reports for review by DSF Directors and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Maintains a well-organized and intuitive general ledger.
  • Compiles and analyzes necessary financial information to support their preparation of journal entries for review by the Director of Finance.
  • Ensures accurate account coding and entry of payables and receivables daily.
  • Prepares daily deposit and reporting using remote deposit system.
  • Prepares bank, cash disbursement, credit card and other financial accounts for monthly reconciliation.
  • Verifies or completes weekly payment of invoices associated with accounts payable.
  • Works in collaboration with the Development department to complete monthly fundraising and pledge system reconciliations between CRM and Accounting systems.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Enters payroll processing information into payroll processing system bi-weekly.
  • Performs statistical financial project analysis to determine trends, estimates and significant changes and authors narrative reports explaining findings.
  • Determines proper handling of financial transactions.
  • Monitors compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and company procedures.
  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports ensuring maintenance of accurate organizational statements and reporting.
  • Makes recommendations regarding accounting systems and processes.
  • Maintains established filing and documentation system for all finance transactions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or related field, required. Three to five years of progressive accounting position progression required. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a Nonprofit finance role highly preferred.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Work, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Desktop or similar accounting software.
  • Experience with Paylocity or similar payroll software.
  • Experience with Power BI preferred.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical, and organization skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to work on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment and analysis are required in resolving problems and making recommendations.
  • Ability to collaborate professionally and courteously with a wide variety of people, both in person and in a remote work capacity.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality.
