Position Summary

Laboratory Research Technician to develop and implement algorithms to analyze existing behavioral and physiological data, and to carry out behavioral experiments and physiological recordings in rodent models of cognitive aging.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop, trouble-shoot, and optimize custom algorithms for processing and analyzing behavioral and physiological data
  • Maintain documentation of custom algorithms used for data processing and analysis
  • Carry out behavioral training and testing in rodent (rat) models
  • Perform in vivo neurophysiological recordings in rodent (rat) models
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data generated in behavioral and physiological experiments
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments and analyses conducted
  • Organize, annotate, and maintain backups of laboratory data
  • Assist in general laboratory maintenance (ordering, receiving, inventories, preparation of stock reagents, aliquoting and labeling, hazardous waste removal, etc.)
  • Assist in laboratory management
  • Assist with small animal surgical procedures and care
  • Assist in animal husbandry and colony management
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or delegated

Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Neuroscience or a related field
  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a laboratory research setting
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Effective reading, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Experience programming in MATLAB and Python
  • Experience compiling, analyzing, and plotting data
  • Experience with common computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as web browsers and databases
  • Demonstrated record-keeping skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work methodically, accurately and with attention to detail
  • Interest and willingness to work with rodent (rat) models
  • Ability and willingness to learn new methods
  • Reliable and committed to the laboratory
  • Some flexibility in work schedule

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a Neuroscience research setting
  • Experience preparing scientific results for presentation and publication

Typical Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Typical Physical Demands: Standard physical demands for biological research.

Typical Working Conditions: Normal biological lab environment. Programming and data analysis can be done remotely in accordance with distancing guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
