Assistant VP, Traffic


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage regional planners and dispatchers to optimize service for shippers through efficient assignment of orders to our fleet and to facilitate maximum booking opportunities for agents. Train, supervise, and monitor dispatchers in area of responsibility to achieve service and communication goals.

Trains and monitors planning and dispatch staff to function in a manner that reduces service failures.
Provides quality service to our customers and complies with company policies and government regulations.
Resolves and when able, anticipates problems with drivers, agents, customers or staff.
Communicates information accurately and timely to drivers, agents, and customers.
Trains and monitors planning and dispatch staff to function in a manner that reduces service failures.
Assures that priorities are communicated to staff and regularly monitored to assure compliance with desired goals.
Conducts employees' performance evaluations and salary reviews through the continued monitoring of personnel performance.

OTHER FUNCTIONS: Compiles reports as needed including numerical research to analyze performance and recommend corrective course of action as needed. Assumes various traffic department positions in the absence of current staff due to vacations, illness, or staff vacancies. Works with the human resource department to interview and select qualified candidates for open positions under the manager's region of responsibility.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum four (4) years' experience in related positions.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or four to ten years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Overtime is regularly required through the week and on Saturday. During peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) vacation time is limited.
