POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pharmacy IT Specialist functions as the expert in the use of automated technology systems and maintains responsibility for the systems and the daily operational integrity of the technology used to provide Pharmacy services to our customers. The Pharmacy IT Specialist acts as an instructor and resource for clinical staff with regard to identified clinical technologies providing instruction and insight consistent with the processes designed by the Pharmacy Informatics team and Pharmacy Management. The Pharmacy IT Specialist works closely with the Pharmacy, InfoShare, and Nursing staffs to ensure the functional operation and integration of the systems used in the medication delivery system.

This position requires an in-depth expertise of the assigned applications, systems or services. This position will work with the Director of Pharmacy Informatics and the Pharmacy Management for the innovative enhancement of the system and its functionality. This position is responsible for the design, development, training, implementation and modifications of new and/or existing systems. The IT Pharmacist provides direction to the Pharmacy IT Specialist.

The Pharmacy IT Specialist must become proficient in the functions of a Staff Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician as it pertains to their integration with the Pharmacy team as well as understand the process for compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to established procedures and standards while ensuring the delivery of quality patient care.

The Pharmacy IT Specialist must also become familiar with the people and processes at InfoShare, since the primary goal of this position is to integrate the processes that drive the development and maintenance of Pharmacy technology at ARMC in partnership with InfoShare.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or graduate of an accredited technician training program or equivalent experience required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certified Pharmacy Technical preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years experience working with PC Hardware such as automated medical dispensing devices. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows required. Data base management experience preferred. Strong office skills required. Good mathematical abilities are required, and excellent communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Potential exists for exposure to the hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Job requires the ability to stand approximately 40% of the time, occasional reaching, and moderate lifting / pushing such as moving Pyxis equipment. The department specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool lists the essential functions of this position.
