Description

Fermilab is America's premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois as well as other locations around the world including; deep underground mines in South Dakota and Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and additionally the South Pole.

Fermilab's Facilities Engineering Services Section builds and maintains mission-critical infrastructure and services from which high-energy physics research can be safely accomplished without interruption. We provide housing accommodations and logistics and property management. We work on projects that support all of the laboratory's facilities and experiments.

Fermilab's Facilities Engineering Services Section (FESS) seeks a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Associate to develop, operate, and maintain mapping applications and tools in the Fermilab Geographic Information System. This person will evaluate needs analysis, identifies opportunities for improving operations, and develops and documents applications and processes utilizing knowledge of GIS technology and software.

You Will:
  • Develop, operate & maintains mapping applications and tools in the Fermilab Geographic Information System.
  • Evaluates needs analysis and identifies opportunities for improving operations of GIS technology.
  • Develops & documents applications and processes utilizing knowledge of GIS technology and software, utilizing the ESRI ArcGIS technology suite.
  • Recommends upgrades and improvements for GIS applications, hardware, software, & integration with other products and processes.
  • Collects, maintains, and validates GIS data.
  • Develops and analyzes ad-hoc maps, data, and provides related graphic support.
  • Provides training & related support to customers.
  • Abides by & is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health, & safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

We Are Looking For:
  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 3+ years of experience in relevant field or Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, Geography, Cartography, Earth Sciences, Information Systems , or Business with a minimum of a year of experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Aptitude for focusing attention on detail
  • Ability to discern the required protocols and to execute accordingly
  • Proficient in creating and maintaining ArcGIS maps, applications and ArcGIS online solutions.
  • Proficient in utilizing standard word processing and presentation applications such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Keynote, and Google Slides and in translating amongst them
  • Previous experience or training in project management or process systems or associated fields of expertise is advantageous

Human Factors: Mental Concentration, Sitting, Standing, Demanding Work Schedule
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to occasionally work beyond the normal workday and possibly weekends, during critical reporting periods.
