Canopius US Insurance Inc. is part of the Canopius Group one of the top 10 insurers in the Lloyds insurance market. This fast paced company is growing its US operations and is looking for a Finance Manager to fill the new created role. This is an opportunity to shape and develop your role while managing a team of direct reports. The role reports to the US Financial Controller and will have exposure to senior management as well as work collaboratively with colleagues in London.
This role mainly focuses on supporting the insurance business in the Chicago office for GAAP/IFRS and Statutory reporting. The Finance Manager will be responsible for the day to day activities of the team, overseeing month-end and quarter close for both GAAP/IFRS and STAT, development and training of team members and projects as applicable.
Responsibilities:
Oversee financial month-end close and ensure timely submissions to the UK parent (Group)
Provide guidance on accounting treatment
Review and approve journal entries
Review reconciliations
Assign and oversee projects to the team, as applicable
Manage Quarterly and Annual Statutory Reporting
Responsible for managing core accounting functions, AP/AR, Treasury, Accounting, and FP&A.
Oversee operations for the finance team, set goal and objectives, and design a framework for these to be met.
Supervise, develop, and train existing team members
Analyze current Balance Sheet, clean-up, and management
Propose and develop accounting policies and procedures
Assist in overseeing the annual audit
Liase with Tax consultants and assist in managing the relationship
Other responsibilities and various projects as assigned
Skills and Experience:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Accounting, CPA is desirable
P&C Insurance experience preferred
3+ years of management experience
10+ years in an accounting/finance roles with progressive levels of responsibility
Experience with statutory reporting
Experience with FP&A preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office packages to an intermediate level for Excel
Demonstrated technical knowledge of GAAP and Statutory reporting
Experience with Ceded/Assumed Reinsurance is desirable
Process improvement mind-set prior experience managing and driving process change and efficiency will be critical for success.
