Reporting to the Executive Director, Educational Opportunity and Success Programs (EOSP), the Student Success Coach (SSC) position supports student retention and persistence efforts in Stockton University's Educational Opportunity Fund. The SSC will have primary responsibility for advising/coaching/mentoring a caseload of students from the Educational Opportunity Fund.

  • Mentor students who have been identified as being at a higher risk for attrition because of factors ranging from being academically under prepared, to financial need, to a weak sense of belonging
  • Build strong relationships with students and provide holistic support based on an advising model that combines elements of appreciative inquiry, sense of belonging, grit, student involvement theory, and developmental and intrusive advising practices
  • Implement best developmental and intrusive advising/coaching/mentoring practices with an emphasis on increasing each student's potential for academic success, persistence, and degree completion
  • Work closely with the EOF team to assess student needs, develop individualized plans for success, and monitor progress toward goals
  • Participate in the EOF Summer Academy Program
  • Develop a personalized plan for success for each assigned student
  • Monitor student progress toward goals and graduation
  • Follow up on Early Alert progress reports filed by faculty in collaboration with the Care and Community Standards Office
  • Provide regular student progress reports to the Executive Director of EOSP
  • Provide guidance related to transition issues, curricular requirements, financial aid, academic policies, and career preparation
  • Assist with the coordination of the Student Success Services workshops
  • Collaborate with departments to make referrals to other campus resources/offices as needed
  • Follow up with students to help ensure utilization of resources
  • Document student interactions and submit regular reports to the Executive Director and Associate Director, EOF-Galloway and/or EOF-AC
  • Stay abreast of best practices related to student success and advising/coaching/mentoring
  • Participate in professional development activities both on and off campus
  • Participate in campus wide activities and events and/or serve on University committees
  • Perform other duties as required to assure the ongoing success of EOF-Galloway students and the continuous improvement of EOF-Galloway

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year institution
  • Three years experience advising, mentoring, coaching, teaching at risk- college students
  • Ability to work with student success strategies, including developmental and intrusive advising practices
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, technological, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff
  • Valid Drivers license
  • Self-directed, team player

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree with a focus on student development or counseling
