The Director, Quality Workforce Coaching and Research is referred to as the NAHQ Navigator in this position description. This individual will advise the healthcare clients subscribed to NAHQ's QUALITY CAPACITY BUILDER on the most effective use of the results from their Workforce Assessment using the NAHQ Competency Framework and facilitate peer groups of representatives from healthcare clients subscribed to NAHQ's Quality Capacity Builder. In addition, the NAHQ Navigator will also use their subject matter expertise to work with NAHQ CEO, data analyst and director of public relations, to mine data in the world's only quality workforce database to assist with developing thought leadership and research questions.

Throughout each one-year Quality Capacity Builder Workforce Assessment engagement, the NAHQ Navigator will guide healthcare organizations in generating custom reports from their Workforce Assessment, will provide insights in interpreting the results, and will assist in creating action plans to improve the workforce quality competencies and skills and on organizing and coordinating the work of healthcare quality. The NAHQ Navigator will coach the organization quality professionals and executives throughout the engagement with a drive toward improving key organizational outcome goals. They will also facilitate regular peer group meetings of Workforce Assessment clients' point of contact (POC). In the course of these engagements this individual will also identify unmet content and training needs for NAHQ's educational content developers.

Using their subject matter expertise and insights gained in the coaching and facilitation role and from mining the NAHQ Quality Workforce database, this individual will contribute to the development of thought leadership content for the NAHQ CEO and leadership and propose research questions for further exploration.

The successful candidate for this position will possess a level of experience, gravitas, and credibility to enable them to work effectively with healthcare executives.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in the NAHQ kick-off meetings with the client organization.
  • Work with client Point of Contact (POC) to understand client organization structure and Corporate and Quality strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Identify the key custom demographic for the NAHQ Assessment with the client to facilitate meaningful reporting.
  • Determine best initial workforce assessment reports and coordinate with NAHQ report writer.
  • Conduct client orientation to reporting software and creating custom reports (assume POC and additional 1-3 users).
  • Create SME summary report that identifies some high-level observations from the initial workforce assessment reports that provide direction for initial focus and investigation.
  • Facilitate data review coaching calls with client organizations (weekly for 1st 4 weeks, then bi-weekly) throughout the engagement.
  • Prepare summary of coaching calls with recommendations and assist client with action planning.
  • Assist POC in preparation of quarterly reports for executives and C-Suite.
  • Coordinate Peer Group meetings every 6 to 8 weeks, composed of 6 participating client organizations.
  • Peer Group follow-up calls with each client organization to reinforce learnings and develop action plans for upskilling the quality workforce.
  • Identify and recommend training and content available to meet the identified needs for quality workforce upskilling.
  • Reports to NAHQ on learnings, opportunities for Team Training, and Workforce Assessment enhancements.
  • Uses subject matter expertise, industry knowledge and analytical skills to mine the NAHQ Workforce database for topics for NAHQ thought leadership and development of research questions.
  • Assists NAHQ Data Analyst, Communications team, and CEO in authoring and reviewing written thought leadership content for NAHQ CEO and senior leaders.
  • Assists in developing and implementing NAHQ's thought leadership strategy to align with the organization's strategic direction.


  • Minimum of 7-10 years' experience in healthcare quality in a healthcare provider setting, required.
  • Master's degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or a similar field of study (MBA with BSN) with a strong analytical base, preferred.
  • CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality), strongly preferred and required within six months of hire.

Special Skills/Knowledge/Equipment

  • Thorough knowledge of the NAHQ Competency Framework and operational level skills of all competencies within the eight Dimensions or a strong quality background
  • Understanding of the complexity of integrating competencies across the Competency Framework
  • Knowledge of a variety of healthcare organization structures and understand how quality fits into the structures
  • Possess a level of analytical ability to evaluate process improvement goals and initiatives in tandem with the NAHQ Competency Framework.
  • Demonstrated systems thinking capability
  • Open mind with ability to bring a fresh perspective
  • Strong group facilitation and coaching skills
  • Ability to build and manage a team of NAHQ Navigators as needed
  • Competent to work with clients at all levels within an organization
  • Competent to facilitate Peer Groups with a variety of client organizations
