The Digital Content Developer will support the National Kidney Foundation's content marketing strategy to enhance communications and extend brand awareness to the kidney communities we serve. This position will overlay with several key areas of the Digital Marketing team, including social media, email marketing and SEO, and will collaborate with the Kidney Learning Solutions, Web, and Donor Development teams to advance NKF's core content objectives, including reaching new audiences and using content to affect behavior change of existing audiences.


  • Writes content for the NKF website, including patient stories, blog articles, industry news, research news, in a consumer-friendly, informative way that aligns with the NKF brand voice and tone.
  • Supports NKF's email marketing strategy by creating email content; collaborates with Director of Email Marketing and Automation to help develop email journeys and drip campaigns.
  • Develops a deep understanding of the various NKF constituent segments in order to craft content that addresses their individual needs.
  • Collaborates with VP of Digital Marketing and the digital marketing team to analyze content gaps and trends, as well as audience personas across all digital communications touchpoints, including email marketing, social media and web.
  • Develops and maintains an editorial calendar encompassing various NKF verticals in collaboration with Kidney Learning Solutions; defines format and audience for each content piece.
  • Creates content growth strategies that are culturally sensitive and reflect the communities we serve, i.e., people of color; provides thought leadership and perspective for adoption where appropriate.
  • When needed, works with external medical experts and other influencers to source content; vets supporting scientific evidence.
  • Collaborates with the Corporate Development and Kidney Learning Solutions teams to optimize sponsored content.
  • Follows NKF editorial and governance requirements, including style, basic SEO, content categorization and structure, content development and reading level adjustment, approval flows, and other protocols.
  • Performs additional duties, as required.


  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 year of work-related experience and a portfolio of published articles.
  • Basic understanding of content marketing.
  • Understanding of the Patient Health Engagement Model a plus
  • Being able to write in Spanish a plus
  • Working knowledge of content management systems.
  • Ability to work independently, exceptional verbal and written communication, interpersonal, team building skills.
  • Experience working in a health agency is preferred.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
