GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for providing quality and efficient service to clients through the daily management and
leadership of the design services department and team members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide daily direction and communication to design services department. Create and maintain a high quality work environment to motivate team members to perform at their highest level.

• Perform daily department operations.

• Collaborate and communicate with Design Manager in Houston office

• Assist with workload within teams, determining daily account ownership and backup. Work with team members to balance and monitor workload across teams and department.

• Hire, train, develop, coach, mentor, and appraise staff effectively. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consult with human resources as appropriate.

• Ensure employees have appropriate resources, training and mentoring to perform their jobs. Foster a learning environment, challenging employees to continually advance their skills and competencies
while embracing company values.

• Establish standard work processes and measures of success that support company and departmental objectives. Oversee team performance against standards. Work with team to improve processes and develop best practices.

• Review furniture layouts and specifications to ensure accuracy, consistency with standards and space functionality. Identify issues and resolve.

• Participate/lead special projects.

• When necessary, conduct interior space planning for commercial environments; including but not limited to specification of office furniture, finishes, and related products. Create specifications and design service quotes as well as prepare presentation package.

• Consult with general contractors, architects and other consultants, as needed.

• Maintain strong knowledge of systems furniture and furniture product applications and attend
product training classes offered and other courses appropriate to stay current with market trends.

• Develop and maintain best practices and design standards, and readily share knowledge with designers and other roles on an on-going basis.

• Create training material for designers and other functions with an emphasis on the design role.

KEY SELECTION AND SUCCESS FACTORS

WORK EXPERIENCE:

• 10+ years' experience in furniture design or a related field

• 3+ years' experience in a Supervisory role

• Office furniture experience required

• Demonstrated ability to maintain effective performance when faced with time pressures, competing priorities and deadlines

• Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships with internal and external clients

• Managing resources, schedules and budgets, conducting presentations and project meetings to clients

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field strongly preferred

• Proficient in AutoCAD required

• Knowledge of local building codes, ADA compliances and ergonomics required

• Ability to analyze and problem solve effectively and creatively

• Ability to develop, coach and motivate a team and the individuals

• Ability to communicate effectively (across all communication mediums) to a wide variety of audiences

• Good judgment, problem solving, business analysis and decision making skills

• Ability to prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion and work with many interruptions

• Ability to effectively communicate intent, plans, status, issues, alternatives, solutions, and to resolve conflicts

• Exceptional leadership, interpersonal skills, and conflict management skills

OTHER/PREFERRED:
  • NCIDQ registration preferred
  • LEEDS CI preferred
  • Knowledge of CAP or other furniture specification software preferred
  • Knowledge of rendering software preferred
  • Knowledge of local building codes, ADA compliance and ergonomics
