The purpose of your role as a Cost Accounting Manager

As a Cost Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate, complete and timely job cost and inventory information to support the financial statements to be in compliance with GAAP accounting procedures. As a key member of the Accounting team, this position will serve as the main accounting contact for all job cost, payroll / fringe, tax and insurance information. Lead cost accounting staff across all offices within Harris.
  • Lead the Cost Accounting team to resolve questions and issues arising from Job Audits, project management reviews, etc.
  • Provide training to ensure accuracy of job setup, phases, cost codes, etc. Ensure contracts, change orders, exemption certificates and OCIP/CCIP support exists and is maintained in the central location. Ensure contracts include correct tax status and proper wording in the contract.
  • Review overall job cost data, performing analysis to ensure that material, labor, other expenses, margin, and other project-related data is accurately stated. Perform analysis on job cost changes and impact on margin. Identify areas to focus attention.
  • Perform daily / monthly accounting duties including trouble shooting of differences and errors through detail analysis and research. Prepare job cost journal entries to ensure financial transactions are properly recorded and in compliance with GAAP, ensuring accurate financial records.
  • Perform complex reconciliations and research reconciling differences and errors in a timely manner, ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded, resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure written documentation of daily / weekly duties and applicable month end close processes and procedures. Perform training on job cost areas of responsibility.
  • Tie out actual results between systems and resolve any differences.
  • Update and communicate key business issues and provide insightful variance analysis and financial review related to job cost and payroll related items.

What we're looking for in you
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related, or equivalent years of experience
  • 8-10 years of experience required
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team
  • 5+ years of experience with general ledger, accounts payable, job cost, payroll, inventory, and cost allocations.
  • 5+ years of experience with process improvement to create organizational efficiencies.
  • 5+ years of Microsoft Office experience, including advanced experience with Excel
  • 5+ years of experience with accounting and financial reporting systems (COINS, Ultipro, Adaptive Insights is preferred)
  • Construction operations, job cost and payroll experience specific to unions preferred
  • Experience and understanding of general construction accounting preferred
