Coordinator, Simulation Lab Nursing - South Campus

Responsibilities:

Teaching:
  • Keep up with developments in the field of study.
  • Demonstrate high standards-academic and professional.
  • Evaluate student work constructively and provide timely feedback.
  • Teach at days, times and locations that meet student needs.
  • Provide access to students through posted conference hours, electronic communications, and other appropriate methods and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate, and recommend students learning materials.
  • Develop and use a syllabus and course information materials for each course, laboratory, or clinical setting within state, college, and departmental guidelines.

Professional Development:
  • Maintain high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
  • Use effective teaching methods and materials that reflect thoughtful planning, assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles, and engage students in learning.
  • Evaluate program curricula and teaching methods through a process of self- reflection.
  • Meet or exceed professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and business/industry/higher education requirements, as appropriate to the discipline.

Service:
  • Participate actively in college meetings, committees, task forces, and councils.
  • Participate in college-related activities such as registration, community education, student recruitment and retention, and faculty selection.
  • Participate in college activities for students/student organizations.
  • Participate in business and community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the college.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Participate in setting departmental goals, developing college budgets to support those goals, and planning for achieving those goals.

Description of Duties and Tasks:

Essential duties and responsibilities (in concert with the Program Director) include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists faculty to plan, implement and evaluate the integration of simulation into curriculum to promote student learning, critical thinking and clinical decision making.
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop simulation scenarios to promote student learning, critical thinking and clinical decision making.
  • Manages and directs simulation activities for their respective Health Science programs.
  • Collaborates with course faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate course curriculum.
  • Facilitates faculty development related to the use of simulation.
  • Maintains close communication with course faculty regarding progress of students in simulation experiences.
  • Participates in curriculum development, review, and revision as it pertains to simulated clinical laboratory experiences.
  • Maintains inventory and orders lab supplies and equipment for classes to be taught in the simulated clinical laboratory.
  • Provides oversight for the coordination and scheduling of the simulation lab.
  • Maintains and ensures proper function of all simulation manikins and other simulation equipment.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for students (open lab and storing) and remediates (class/clinical) using simulation.
  • Participates in Program and College Faculty Committee meetings as assigned.
  • Keeps informed about major trends and innovations in clinical practice as it relates to topics taught in the simulated clinical laboratory.
  • Pre-programs the simulation manikin software for specific scenario parameters and idiosyncrasies in consultation with course faculty.
  • Collaborates with health science faculty within the division to promote interdisciplinary simulation learning experiences.
  • Seeks opportunities for funding through grants and partnerships with other educational and health care delivery agencies.
  • Conducts clinical simulation lab experiences as necessary based on student need. This may include evening and weekend offerings.
  • Maintains professional competence and licensure through practice, continuing education, and professional activities.
  • Trains Health Science faculty to run the high fidelity manikins, how to develop scenarios and conduct debriefing.
  • Serves as a liaison with area health care facilities regarding practice policy changes that impact the simulation environment.
  • Coordinates and implements practice policy changes, into simulation, when possible.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, innovation, and change initiatives regarding the integration of simulation into clinical education.
  • Participates in recruitment and public relation activities for the school of nursing and any special projects related to simulation.
  • Develops partnerships with clinical affiliates offering training opportunities for their staff (based on availability of simulation lab).


  • Required Education:
    • Bachelor's in Nursing

    Preferred Education :
    • Master's in Nursing

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • Current License to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Texas
