Position Summary:

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science welcome applications for a full-time Controller. Under the direction of the Executive Vice President of Finance & Administration/Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for administrative and technical leadership of the financial accounting functions of the University. This position oversees the organization's accounting practices -including preparation and review of all accounting records and year-end financial and tax reporting. The Controller oversees the daily operations of the Finance Office including general accounting, data control, contracts and grants accounting, accounts payable, fixed asset and facilities accounting, accounts receivable including interfacing with student enrollment and philanthropic giving.

In addition to functional areas of responsibility, the Controller will possess ability to prioritize work assignments and special projects, review and evaluate performance of direct reports, monitor operational procedures, implement modifications to improve efficiencies, oversee the preparation of year-end financial statements ensuring they meet local and federal reporting requirements, standards, and schedules. Manage, monitor and approve expenditures and adjustments, and oversee financial controls.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Oversee the functions of accounts payable, general ledger, accounts receivable, internal controls, fixed assets and facilities accounting.
• Manage all areas of the accounting department, ensuring legal and audit requirements are met.
• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate the accounting department staff.
• Responsible for the preparation of both year-end audited financial statements.
• Responsible for remaining current with the latest accounting pronouncements and concepts, applying those concepts to University financial statements as well as the reporting and registration requirements of the state of Illinois and federal government.
• Perform significant review of financial statements assuring the proper allocation of revenues and expenses.
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of an appropriate system of internal control over financial activities.
• Coordinate the year-end annual financial audit and IRS 990, including the preparation of work papers.
• Contribute to the overall success of the University by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• Minimum of eight (8) years of financial accounting experience.
• Must have five (5) years of management and supervisory experience that includes planning and organizing work, setting goals and objectives, day-to-day employee management, assigning tasks, providing guidance and training, monitoring performance, conflict management, automating processes, hiring, disciplinary actions, and/or termination.
• Must achieve a background check clearance.
