The Chief Operations Officer (COO) is a key senior leadership position the President/CEO relies on directly to execute the operational directives set by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio (BBBSCO), the BBBSCO Board of Directors, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA). The COO is responsible for planning, organizing and controlling all day-to-day execution; enhancing the internal organization processes and infrastructure that will allow BBBSCO to fulfill its mission, improve a culture of excellence, and grow to serve more children; and collaborate with the President/CEO in the overall administration of BBBSCO.

Serve as the internal leader of the organization

Directs the development and implementation of strategic short- and long-term plans to achieve objectives for growth; implements strategies to accommodate current and future organizational needs; and assist in attaining operational and financial goals.

Provide an elevated level of customer relations and service to manage reputational risk and ensures compliance with agency policies and procedures to mitigate operational risk.

Manage the agencies liability and property insurance needs.

Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization.

Ensure that all program service delivery is in accordance with agency vision and values.

Provide for all staff a strong day-to-day leadership presence; bridge local and state operations and support an open-door policy amongst all staff.

Serve as the champion for creative thinking and excellence in order to ensure that the agency goals are met and/or exceeded.

Directs the development and creation of new strategic planning processes and initiatives for the agency. Oversees and manages the implementation of the agency strategic planning process.

Oversees the research and analysis of agency processes and issues and provides consultation and recommendations to leadership.

Interprets financial and statistical data and introduces innovative ideas and processes to support the agency departments achieve their goals.

Directs the analysis and evaluation of the existing strategic planning processes of the agency and recommends improved methods as well as new strategic opportunities to leadership. Identifies growth opportunities for the agency and its programs.

Hire staff, develop, supervise and evaluate County Offices.

Provide support and strategic guidance to BBBSCO County Offices.

Provide support and strategic guidance to BBBSCO subsidiary agencies.

Serves as agency liaison and Board Member to all subsidiary agencies.

Serves in the absence of the BBBSCO President/CEO as designated.

Assist with development and stewardship with key partnerships; faith-based, educational and corporate as needed.

Works with local agencies, organizations, and committees to ensure appropriate presence and visibility in the community.

Assists the Vice President of Development in fundraising efforts as needed.



Possess the minimum of a Bachelor's degree.

Proven track record of exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation.

Evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment; problem solving, project management, process management, continuous improvement, risk management, verbal and written communication, relationship management, customer service, and creative resourcefulness.

Management experience working for a non-profit or for-profit organization.

Must be willing to work with diverse populations and in diverse areas.

Understanding of finance, systems, and Human Resources; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, human resources, and marketing.

Must be willing to work extended hours as needed.

Must be willing to work evening and weekends as required

Intermediate MS Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point proficiency
