Athletic Trainer - South Campus

Primary Function: Assessment and treatment of athletic injuries, rehabilitating athletes with injuries. Maintain athletic training area, attend practices and games. Maintain communication with athletic coaches concerning student-athlete injuries.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Monitors practices as well as pre-practice taping and bracing.
  • Diagnoses all athletic injuries.
  • Provides medical emergency coverage for all games for both home and visiting teams.
  • Designs and creates specific treatment plans and rehabilitation protocols for each individual injury and then documents and tracks their progress.
  • Monitors hydration as well as general medical conditions.
  • Meets with coaches and athletes to discuss progress and when the athlete may return to play.
  • Files insurance claims and tracks the progress of the claims processing which includes the tracking of both the student primary insurance and the school's secondary policy.
  • Cleans and/or sterilizes athletic training room tables, instruments and tools.
  • Travels out of town with the teams to road games and tournaments.
  • Transports athletes to and from doctor visits and/or surgery.

Additional Job Functions:
  • Inventories and orders supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Conducts and organizes pre-participation physicals for every sport.
  • Coordinates with safety office for all insurance claims filed.
  • Discusses recruits' medical history with coaches to determine possible medical problems.
  • Maintains all medical and life-saving equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate the College values.
  • Working knowledge of a range of athletic injuries, insurance claim forms, rehabilitation protocols, and rehabilitation modalities.
  • Skills to include taping, special orthopedic testing, rehabilitation practices and procedures, and insurance claims management.
  • Abilities include performing under highly stressful conditions and the recall and practice of life-saving skills as necessary to maintain the safety of College athletes.

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Education:
  • Graduate degree

Required Experience:
  • Two years of head athletic trainer experience

Preferred Experience:
  • Five years of head athletic trainer experience

Required Licenses/Certifications:
  • National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification
  • Texas State Licensed Athletic Trainer

Remote Work Opportunities:

  • The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.

  • Road trips to various locations

Physical Activity:

  • Lifting up to 100 pounds of force or more
  • Manipulation of athlete bodies for rehabilitation

  • Lifting and transporting emergency kit (approximately 50 pounds)
