Position Purpose

The Assistant Director for Co-Curricular Programs provides operational oversight and day-to-day management of the co-curricular programs in coordination with the Deputy Director. The Assistant Director develops and implements programs that enhance the academic experience of undergraduates. The Assistant Director negotiates and secures high-profile speakers for public policy lectures and leadership programs.

Program Management (35%)

  • Develops administrative systems that assist with the planning, implementation, and execution of co-curricular programs.
  • Participates in long-range program planning and development for the Center.
  • Plans and implements assigned programs, engaging in all aspects of the process including: content development; logistics coordination; audience engagement; continuous quality improvement; promotional materials development; budget development; monitoring expenses; and assessment;
  • Coordinates collection of annual statistical and assessment information and consolidates and curates the data for general distribution.
  • Provides recommendations and oversight in the implementation of a system for evaluating and assessing the performance of Center programs.
  • Assists the Deputy Director with preparation for Board meetings. Prepares draft of minutes for the meetings.
  • Assumes management and administrative responsibilities in the absence of the Deputy Director.
    Public Programs (35%)
  • Conducts research and recommends potential speakers to the Deputy Director for high-profile public and specialized programs on public policy, social and economic issues, and leadership.
  • Secures speakers, plans and develops public programs that enhance student and community learning in the areas of public policy, public affairs, and leadership.
  • Develops new approaches and works with the Deputy Director to expand the public program offerings to reach a diverse audience.
  • Organizes and oversees logistics for selected public programs, student and alumni conferences and related promotional events, many of which involve national and internationally renowned individuals.
  • Serves as the Rockefeller Center point of contact for events related to the election cycles with campus partners, campaigns, and media partners.
  • Oversees public programs implemented by the Program Officer for Public and Special Events.
  • Represents the Center in assigned campus-wide planning committees
  • Oversees the writing of program summaries, reports and descriptive materials as they relate to public programs.
    Staff Management (20%)
  • Oversees the facilitation of weekly co-curricular staff meetings.
  • Coordinates the annual co-curricular staff planning meeting.
  • Develops an orientation plan for new co-curricular staff hires.
  • Establishes and implements a strategy for recruiting, organizing, training and supervising student assistants.
  • Supervises the Program Officer for Public and Special Events.

Undergraduate Mentoring, Campus Collaboration, & Alumni Networking (10%)

  • Co-facilitates the Civic Skills Training with the program officer responsible for the First-Year Fellows Program.
  • Oversees center-wide events such as Dimensions and Open House that foster student learning about public policy programs and issues.
  • Assists with establishing and maintaining a strong alumni network and takes the lead in coordinating alumni mentors for the First-Year Fellows program.
  • Develops networks with colleagues and campus partners and represents the Center in College-wide committees as required.
  • Works with the Deputy Director to develop and implement a strategy for undergraduate career advising, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Effectively communicates and personally supports the Center's values to foster inclusiveness and diversity, especially in situations that prepare students for lives of leadership and service in a diverse and interdependent word.
  • Fosters respectful communication and collaboration within a diverse community.
