Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Access Coordinator position. The Access Coordinator is a full-time, academic year (10 month) position, job group and level AO-1. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Access Coordinator provides support for a diverse set of faculty and students by liaising to arrange note-taking accommodations and schedule tests, quizzes, or exams with extra time. Tasks consist of coordinating with Academic Department Coordinators, the Registrar's Office, and faculty to support students with approved accommodations; scheduling test times and locations; reserving spaces for test-taking. The coordinator is an active member who participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment for everyone.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Testing and Note-Taking Operations
  • Organize and manage the daily operations of the requests from a diverse set of faculty and staff by consulting with the faculty member, communicating with the student, and using appropriate assistive devices for accommodations
  • Coordinate with Academic Department Coordinators and Faculty to receive and return test-taking materials
  • Coordinate with Faculty on any special test-taking requirements on communication methods during student test-taking
  • Use EMS and other approaches to reserve space on campus for test-taking
  • Ensure that test security standards are upheld and that the confidentiality of testing records is maintained
  • Organize and manage student note-taking services
  • Hire, train, and supervise a diverse set of peer note-takers
  • Provide assistive technology support for note-taking (i.e. Livescribe pens, Sonoscent Audio Notetaker)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated administrative skills with Excel, Gmail and the ability to learn the EMS reservation system and related college software
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written, verbal, electronic communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to supporting a diverse student community
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the campus community

  • Associates Degree
  • Experience working on a college or university campus
